Our Target Area

Focused support across Cambodia's connected coastal and marine ecosystems.

MRPO's blue operational zone covers Cambodia's southwest coastal waters around Koh Rong, Koh Sdach, Koh Tang, Koh Prins, nearby islands, fishing routes, reef systems, mangrove-linked coastal areas, and surrounding coastal communities. It is not presented as one single protected area. It identifies the wider seascape where MRPO can support coordination, monitoring, rapid response, research collaboration, restoration, and community-based conservation.

Regional Marine Coordination

The highlighted zone shows MRPO's broader coordination and response area across connected southwest coastal waters. Within this area, MRPO may support reef and habitat monitoring, marine incident response, ghost net reporting and removal coordination, fisheries-related support, research collaboration, and conservation implementation with government, communities, and partners.

Protection Priorities

Priority work focuses on marine protected areas and surrounding waters, coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass and shallow-water habitats, biodiversity movement corridors, illegal fishing pressure zones, and areas affected by ghost nets, pollution, habitat degradation, or declining marine biodiversity.

Community Stewardship

MRPO supports coastal and island communities connected to these waters by strengthening local participation, traditional knowledge, responsible fishing practices, conservation awareness, community reporting, livelihood resilience, and shared responsibility for marine resource protection.

Long-Term Ecosystem Resilience

The zone is intentionally wider than a single site because illegal fishing, ghost nets, pollution, habitat damage, and biodiversity loss move across open water, islands, reefs, fishing routes, and coastal communities. Working at this scale helps MRPO support connected protection, restoration, data collection, emergency response, and long-term ecosystem resilience across Cambodia's coastal region.
