- Evidence type
- peer-reviewed management study
Findings
- Researchers combined 161 patrol records from June 2016–March 2017 with interviews and a March 2017 survey of 163 households, including 33 fishers.
- Interview and patrol evidence suggested gaps in night-time coverage. Detected incidents and local perceptions depend on observation effort and do not provide a complete count of illegal fishing. Abstract p.10.
What the evidence can tell us
Patrol coverage and detection effort affect where violations were recorded. Areas without records may still have fishing activity.
